Literature Text

When I was in the 10th grade, I knew I wasn't straight
Thought guys were cute, kept it hidden. Didn't want any hate
I told my friend, tears rushing down my face
She's like, "Jace, you like girls too, so it must be okay. Trippin'"
Yeah, I guess she had a point, didn't she?
Bunch of stereotypes all in my head

I remember doing the math like, "Yeah, I'm good at little league"
A preconceived idea of what it all meant
For those that liked the same sex
Had the characteristics
The right wing conservatives think it's a decision
That you can be cured with some treatment and religion
Man-made rewiring of a predisposition
Playing God, aw nah here we go
America the brave still fears what we don't know
And God loves all his children, is somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written 3500 years ago
I don't know

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love
My love
My love
He keeps me warm
He keeps me warm
He keeps me warm
He keeps me warm

So I like guys, but my parents disapprove
If it's brought up, it changes their whole mood
They believe that what they were taught is
Right, not wrong; Makes me feel like I don't belong
Just for once, I want to fit in
They think prayer will fix me within
Call themselves Christians, with no unconditional love found
Bible says "love, not hate." Get your shit together and facts straight
Let's be mature adults now, We're not eight
Treat others how you want to be treated
The Golden Rule that we learned in elementary school
We need to do more of this, than to bully and fight
Equality! All LGBTQ deserve these rights!
Live on and be yourself
Never change who you are to please someone else
Who you love, Or who you'll marry shouldn't affect the crowd
Love yourself, love your partner; Voice your rights and be proud
Nobody gets to tell you how to live or who to be
Last I checked, I lived in America, LAND OF THE FREE
I might not be the same, but that's not important
No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love
My love
My love
He keeps me warm
He keeps me warm
He keeps me warm
He keeps me warm
Did a rewrite of "Same Love" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Wrote this back in August I think? Edit: Oct. 2016.

Anyways, these lyrics hit home hard. Long story short: my parents don't accept me for who I am because of my sexuality. These are just the parts I wrote (and then the chorus in between to guide you of which verse is what).
